Publications: Britannia 10 (1979) 344, no. 4; Britannia 22 (1991): 307-308, Adde

Keywords: gold ring

Description:

Fragment of a long strip cut from sheet lead, measuring 98 x 54mm, folded. Inscribed long-axis with a sharp point, with five lines of ‘rustic capitals’. Published in Britannia 10 (1979) 344, no 4, and here revised. There is a small conjoining fragment, apparently uninscribed. Part survives of the top and bottom edges, but both left and right edges are broken; however, since deo (line 1) is likely to have been the first word, the left margin may survive, but the discontinuities of sense suggest that the missing right portion was extensive.
